Shirley Joan (Armstrong) Braymen, 87, of Shenandoah, Iowa, entered into eternal rest on Thursday morning, April 20, 2023, at Homestead of Shenandoah.  A celebration of life graveside funeral service for Shirley will be held on Monday, April 24, 2023, at 11:00 am at Union Grove Cemetery in rural Northboro, Iowa with Pastor David Clark officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends with visitation at Nishna Valley Funeral and Cremation from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm Sunday afternoon, April 23, 2023. Memorials are being directed to People for Paws.


OBITUARY

Shirley Joan (Armstrong) Braymen, daughter of Donald and Sarah Lois Vera (Draper) Armstrong, was born on September 24, 1935 in Atchison County, Missouri. She entered into eternal rest on Thursday morning, April 20, 2023 at Homestead of Shenandoah, Iowa, at the age of 87 years, 6 months, 27 days.


Growing up in Atchison County she attended country school at Emporia country school until the 5th grade. The family then moved to rural Northboro, Iowa where she attended school in Coin, Iowa, graduating from Coin High School in 1953.


After graduation, she began working for Central Surveys in Shenandoah. She met the love of her life, William Braymen, and was united in marriage on March 21, 1954 at the First United Methodist Church in Shenandoah. A year later they moved to Glenview, Illinois where Bill was transferred to active duty in the Naval Reserve. Shirley worked for three years as a key punch operator at Encyclopedia Britannica in Wilmette, Illinois. In June of 1958, they moved to rural Coin to farm and raise their three sons, Russell, Glen and Walter.


She truly loved being a housewife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.


Preceding Shirley in death were her parents, Don and Sarah Armstrong; husband, William; three siblings, Jim Armstrong, Darlene Manes, and Jean Hamilton.


Left to cherish her memory are her three sons, Russell William (Detra) Braymen of Coin, IA, Glen Donald (Tammy) Braymen of Shenandoah, IA, and Walter David (Shanna) Braymen of Shenandoah, IA; 9 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; four siblings, Ardene Mullison, Walter Armstrong, Beverly Delehant and Linda Hrbek; many other relative and dear friends.
