Pastor Emeritus John Frank Campbell Obituary
JOHN FRANK CAMPBELL was born September 19, 1934 the seventh child of Reverend Irie C. and Bertha M. Campbell, in Lodonia, Texas, who preceded him in death. Reverend John F. Campbell departed this life early the first day of “Holy Week”, on Monday, April 3, 2023 at Midland Memorial Hospital, Midland, Texas.
John Campbell confessed Christ at an early age, and was baptized by his father, senior Pastor, at Mt. Rose MBC, Midland, Texas. He was a strong believer in Christ at an early age.
He attended and graduated from Carver High School in Midland, TX where he met and married, Billie Faye Kindle. He joined the Army and served his country in the Korean War.
He was called, into ministry in Tucson AZ, at Pilgrim Rest MBC in 1957, and while in Tucson, AZ, he met and married Laura E. Chandler, who preceded him in death. He ministered in the states of Arizona, Texas, and California. Arizona is where he was licensed and ordained.
He moved to Athens, TX, where he pastored St. James MBC, in Palestine, TX, and other churches. While residing in Athens, TX, he met and married Eva M. Gordon, and moved to Madisonville, TX, where, he was the senior Pastor at Shiloh MBC, for 3 years.
Later in his journey, he moved to Midland, TX, and became the senior pastor at New Jerusalem MBC for 40 years, (1971-2011), later to retire. Under his leadership, New Jerusalem MBC built the beautiful church building where they are still worshipping.
Reverend Campbell, loved his sports, he was an avid Dallas Cowboy’s fan. He had a passion for cooking, for his family, friends, and neighbors. His BBQ and Smoked Ham were known everywhere.
Family members who proceeded him in death: Eva M. Campbell (Spouse), Joseph N. Campbell, Irie Mae Barrow, Annie Lee Jackson, Rev. Dr. L. W. Campbell, Dr. Lyn A. Campbell Sr., and Eulalie Suggs, (Siblings), and Loretta Forrester (Daughter).
He leaves to cherish his memories, his five beautiful daughters, Toya Campbell- Pryor, (John (Dec.)), of Atlanta, GA, Gloria Faye Campbell -Wynds, (Earl Sr.), Blakely, GA, Jacqueline Campbell, Midland, TX, Annette Hill, (Michael), Cedar Hill, TX, Fredrika Thomas, (Jay), Midland, TX, brother, Roosevelt Campbell, Midland, TX, (Mary (Dec.)), sister, Maryjo Campbell - Andrews, (Clarence); Sahuarita, AZ, Joan Campbell, (sister-in-law), San Juan, PR. He leaves one very special son in Christ, Rev. Dr. George Bell, Midland, TX. He also leaves thirteen grandchildren; Calvin D. Hill (Sharina),Tera Carter, Robert D. Hill III (Rashell), Angela Pryor, all of Atlanta, GA, Hubert Pryor II, (Micha), Denver, CO; Lateeva Tennon, (Thomas), Midland,TX, Stacelyn Olguin, (Herman), Colorado Springs, CO, LaRonica Jackson, Midland, TX, Tyese Hayes, Cedar Hill, TX, Kiara Hayes, Cedar Hill, TX, Courtney Thomas, Zachary Thomas, Xavier Thomas, all of Midland, TX, and numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives, Son’s in Ministry, and sorrowing friends and neighbors.
A wake service will be held on Friday, April 14, 2023 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Avalos-Sanchez & Thomas Funeral Home.
Homegoing Celebration will be Saturday, April 15, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at New Jerusalem Baptist Church.
