<p>THOMPSON, Gordon Stanley</p><p><br></p><p>Sydney</p><p><br></p><p>It is with heavy hearts we the family of Gordon regret to announce his passing on Thursday March 30, 2023, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. </p><p><br></p><p>Born in Sydney he was the son of the late George and Mae (Bond) Thompson.</p><p><br></p><p> He was employed at Robin Hood Flour until its closing, then worked at Sydney Steel Corp, Security Dept until his retirement. Gordon was a member of St. Theresa's Parish. He was an avid sportsman, in his younger days playing hockey, curling, bowling darts and a member of Lingan Golf Club where he shot a hole in one. In his retirement he was a member of Seaview Golf Club and the Pensioners Club which he enjoyed.</p><p><br></p><p> He is predeceased by his wife Catherine (Collins), sons Michael and Gerald (in infancy), his grandsons Trevor and Christopher (in infancy) Rutherford and father and mother-in-law Bernard and Margaret Collins. He is also predeceased by his sisters Jenny, Helen, Gladys, Francis, Ida, Alice and brothers Charlie, George, James, and Peter.</p><p><br></p><p> He is survived by his daughters Jeanette, Cathy (Walter Rutherford) and Margie Sydney, sons Gordie (Tina) Dartmouth and Darren (Patricia) Ottawa also survived by his grandchildren Mark Rutherford Sydney, Matthew Dartmouth, Hannah (Graham), Michael and Emma Thompson and great grandson Alexander Ottawa. He is also survived by sisters Marie Ranni, Josephine Watson and brothers Allan and Charlie.</p><p><br></p><p>Visitation will take place Sunday April 2, 2023, from 4 – 7pm in Sydney Memorial Chapel. Funeral mass will be held Monday at 11 am in St. Theresa’s Church with Rev. Evo DiPierro officiating. Interment in Resurrection </p><p>Cemetery.</p><p><br></p><p> Memorials may be made to Palliative Care, Muscular Dystrophy, Cystic Fibrosis, or charity of choice.</p><p><br></p><p>Words of comfort may be sent to the family at www.sydneymemorialchapel.com .</p><p><br></p>
