Roger Nelson Obituary

Roger Nelson 3-24-52 ~ 3-27-23

“I read of a man who stood to speak

At the funeral of a friend

He referred to the dates on the tombstone

From the beginning...to the end

He noted that first came the date of birth

And spoke the following date with tears,

But he said what mattered most of all

Was the dash between those years

For that dash represents all the time

That they spent alive on earth.

And now only those who loved them

Know what that little line is worth”

~ a portion from the The Dash poem

Roger was born March 24, 1952, and passed away March 27, 2023.  Roger lived his life to the fullest.  He loved to travel, he loved music and he loved sports!  He and his late girlfriend, Lisa Bell, did it all.  Roger loved the Washington Redskins and went to DC, many times, on the Redskins bus.  He was also an avid NC State fan.  Roger traveled as often as possible.  He loved the Florida Keys, New Orleans, the Carolina beaches and several other destinations.  Roger loved going to concerts and also listening to local bands at different venues in town.  He knew so many musicians.

Roger is preceded in death by his parents, Lennart Nils Nelson and Charlotte Marie Schmitt Nelson.  He is also preceded in death by his brother, Dominique Alain Nelson.

Roger is survived by three siblings, John (Anu) Nelson of Potomac, MD, Brigitte Nelson of Waxhaw, NC and Eric (Heather) Nelson of Springfield, VA; nephews, Dale (Carrie) Connors of Waxhaw, NC, Tyler (Angel) Nelson of Texas, Brett, Caden and Jake Nelson, all of Springfield; a grandnephew, Dominik Connors of Waxhaw; and grandnieces, Rose and Eisley Nelson of Texas. A memorial service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 29, 2023, at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home, with a gathering of friends and family at Paul’s Place in Fayetteville, immediately following the service.  Roger went there many times to hear local musicians.
