Obituary

In loving memory of Richard Eugene Berton, 80 years of age, who passed away peacefully in the early hours of March 29th surrounded by family at the Maison McCulloch Hospice.

Richard departed this life much the same as he lived, with dignity, gentleness, love, and an abundance of strength. Hardworking, he rose through the ranks at the Greater Sudbury Fire Department, ending his 30-year career as Platoon Chief.

He was happiest when he was together with family and friends, sharing laughs, good times, and a glass of scotch. Richard was lucky to find love with his high-school sweetheart Reta Fowler (predeceased), and again with Monique Gamelin, with whom he shared his golden years until his passing. He was a beloved father to Elizabeth Kotila (Ron Kotila) and Daniel Berton (Joyce Adrain) and stepfather to Marie-Hélène Audy (Maxime Champagne) and Marc Audy (predeceased). Richard was loved and will be missed by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, Maria St-Jacques and Arthur Berton, and brothers Robert Berton, Leo St-Jacques, and Gerry St-Germain.

The family would like to thank the caring staff at the Hospice who provided extraordinary care to Richard and his family during his time there. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Maison McCulloch Hospice would be appreciated by his family.

Memorial Visitation at the Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home, 233 Larch St., Sudbury on Sunday, April 2, 2023 from 2-4 & 6-8pm. Cremation at the Park Lawn Crematorium. For donations or messages of condolence, www.lougheedfuneralhomes.com
