Betty F. Bergdorf

On the morning of March 22, 2023 Betty Bergdorf passed to her eternal reward surrounded by the love of her family. Betty was born the seventh child of Casper and Ethel Wagner on October 15, 1925. She was married to Ronald Bergdorf on September 25, 1945 in Cuyahoga Falls, OH at St. Joseph Parish.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings Bernard, Edward, Alfred, Carl, Louis, Mary, Gene, Gerald, John, Richard and Thomas, her grandson Anthony and her beloved husband Ronald. She is survived by her children Marilyn, Ronald Jr. and Dennis, her grandchildren Tim, Lisa, Greg, Darron, Sean, Matthew, Jonathan, Andrew and Nicholas, her great-grandchildren Samuel, Makenzi, Kassie, Samantha, Elizabeth, Audrey, Joseph, Zachery, Miles and Summer, and her great-great-grandchildren Anthony, Faliyn, Forrest, Daxtyn, Zetalee and Venus. She supported her children in all their endeavors and this family is her greatest accomplishment.

Betty played many roles in her life. She was an accomplished seamstress. She could alter anything. She was able make the things she could envision in her head. She sewed with love, making wedding dresses, first communion dresses and altar cloths for nearly every parish she attended. She was a bookkeeper for multiple companies, but most importantly for her husband’s many machine shops. She loved to read (and to organize) and served as a librarian for libraries in a high school, a retreat house and a retirement home.

Betty also loved to play. She was an avid bowler and golfer. In her lockbox of important documents, she kept the scorecard from the time she beat her husband in a round of golf. She and her husband dominated at Euchre (except against their unpredictable grandson Tony). She loved to play games, cards and puzzles with friends and family, and just before she passed, she beat some of that family at a game of Dominoes.

She loved learning, especially about her faith, and loved teaching and sharing her talents. She organized retreats for women, she taught fourth grade religious education into her 80s, and she even taught the blind to sew.

In all of this, Betty deeply loved God and her faith and relied on the intercession of Our Lady throughout her life. She always prayed for others, sometimes spending the whole morning in prayer. She especially prayed for those who had passed and would love nothing more than for you to pray for her.
