David Molstre Obituary

David J. Molstre, 64, Horace, ND passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at Essentia Health, Fargo, ND.

David James Molstre was born on April 6, 1958, in Glenwood, MN to Raymond and Phyllis (Johnson) Molstre. David grew up in the Glenwood and Alexandria area, graduating from Glenwood High School in 1976. On October 24, 1983, David married Vicki Toop at Golden Ridge Lutheran Church, Fargo, ND. They lived in Hawley, MN, Fargo, ND, and in 1987 made their home in Horace, ND. In 1986 David started Fire Guard Company, which cleans Commercial Kitchen Hood Systems for area businesses that is still in operation.

David's love for hunting began after confirmation when his dad bought his first gun (10/22 Ruger) and would take him hunting and shooting. David's Dad was active with Ham Radios and would sit with him while he talked to people all over the U.S. David lost his mom while in 6th grade and dad in 9th grade and moved in with his brother Ben until graduation. During High School David was involved in various activities including Hot Rods, motorcycles (stunts), hunting, skiing (water and downhill) and Tennis.

David met Vicki in High School in Glenwood, MN and were friends. They reconnected in the fall of 1979 in Fargo, ND where Vicki was attending Moorhead Technical College while David was driving truck with his brothers Richard and Gary. In their early years, Vicki enjoyed watching David play softball, bowl and many years of pool league. David stopped over the road trucking and began driving a car transport hauler for an area dealer to be closer to home.

David’s sons were born in 1984 (Michael) and 1987 (Jesse) and he was especially proud of his family. David loved spending time with his family, grandsons, friends, hunting, guns and good dogs. This led to League Trap Shooting and eventually competitive trap shooting. David loved to go fast and raced his many cars over the years at the Sabin, MN race track and Brainerd International Raceway track. David also enjoyed spending time over many summers at a family lake place on Big Cormorant Lake. David always found ways to spend time with his family and included them in all his various activities. One of David’s favorite things to do was visit local pawn shops for hidden gems. He visited them often and they knew him by name wherever he visited.

David loved anything that had a motor and could go fast. This included many cars, snowmobiles, motorcycles, ATV's, jet skis and boats. David enjoyed giving back and would do so by taking people out hunting and fishing who may not have had an opportunity to do it. While hunting, he would enjoy his time with his family and his dogs (German Short-haired pointers). If he wasn’t hunting, he loved various forms of target shooting (especially trap). He loved his many cars; but his 1962 Chevy Nova was his favorite. While doing all these activities, the one thing he enjoyed the most was teaching his boys and grandchildren the proper and safe way to do all those activities. David belonged to the North Dakota Trap Shooting Association Board.

David is survived by his Wife Vicki, of Horace, ND, his two sons Michael (Allison), of Fargo, ND and Jesse (Anna), of West Fargo, ND, three grandsons (Silas, Vance and Miles) and three siblings: Victoria Batchelder, of Grass Valley, CA, Linda (Vern) Tiede, of Moorhead, MN, and Ben Molstre, of Fargo, ND.

David was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Richard and Gary; father-in-law Shorty Toop and mother-in-law, Marilue (Jenney) Toop.
