Janis Gayle Korsmoe Obituary

Janis passed in her sleep after battling multiple myeloma on March 20, 2023 at age 84. She was born in Makoti, North Dakota on May 24, 1938 to Ardell and Pearl Albro. As a young child the family moved to Tacoma where she essentially stayed for the rest of her life. After graduating from Lincoln High School she began working at a bank where a co-worker set her up on a blind date with Paul Korsmoe. The blind date was a success and the two married on May 26, 1961. They soon settled in University Place and lived in the same home until their passings. It was in this home they raised their four children: Jeff, Scott, Mitch, and Allison. Their home was also filled with numerous four legged “children” through the years – starting with Tony, a Pekingese mix, a lot of dachshunds and a few pugs and mutts thrown in. Her last, Daisy, is lost without her.

She dedicated her life to her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, those who considered her a bonus “Gramma”, and to countless others through decades of teaching Sunday School at Bethesda Baptist Church. Bethesda has been her spiritual home since her teens. After her youngest started high school, Janis became the art director at King's Kids Pre-School and Kindergarten and worked there until she was physically unable to continue.

Janis had a love of everything horses. If it had a horse on it, she either had it or wanted it. The house shows that love - from sweatshirts, figurines, wall hangings, and decorative statues peppered throughout.

Paul and Janis were married for over 52 years until his passing in 2013. Janis is survived by her children Jeff (Krista), Scott, Mitch and Allison; grandchildren Lauren (Tony), Matt, Monte, Kassy, and Jordynn; great-grandchildren Oliver, Eric, Achilles, and Kamari. She is also survived by sisters Carol Gustafson and Sherri Melton, brother Robert (Connie) Albro, brother-in-law Bob McClane, and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents Ardell and Pearl Albro, sisters Lola McClane, Marcia Albro, brother and sister-in-law Norman and Debi Albro, brother-in-law Richard “Gus” Gustafson, brother-in-law Charles “Bud” Melton; Paul’s parents Albert and Nora Korsmoe, his sister and brother-in-law Alberta and Cal Harthun, and his sister and brother-in-law Genevieve and Lyle Bose. Also mourning the loss are two special people to her and our family, childhood friends Marilyn Johnston and Janet Vodder.
