Rev. James William “Jim” Slow, 88, passed away on Saturday, March 25, 2023.   He was born on March 24, 1935 in Bryan, OH.   He was preceded in death by his parents, James Edward and Martha Slow; son, James Tribune Slow and brother, Donald Slow.

Jim graduated from Bryan High School in 1954 where he excelled in football, basketball, and swimming.  He served in the US Marine Corps from 1955 to 1960, and it was during this time that he married the love of his life, Helen (Oelke).  They were married on December 23, 1955 at St John Lutheran Church in Defiance, OH. 

He was ordained as a Lutheran Minister in 1966 and served in the ministry for 57 years.  He was a pilot who was commercial and twin-engine rated, loved to read, loved antiques and woodworking.  But most of all, Jim loved to witness and led many people to Christ.

Jim is survived by his wife of 67 years, Helen Slow; children, Lori Olson (Kenny), Peshtigo, WI;  Baird Slow, Deep Run, NC;  Julia Dominique (Denny), Defiance, OH;  Jennifer Grubbs (Chris), Deep Run, NC;  daughter-in-law, Paula Slow, Alexandria, ND;  brother, Steven Slow, Greenbay, WI;  seven grandchildren, Javan Slow (Jayme), Janelle Anderson (Ben), Amanda Kunst (Jim), Trudi Skedsvold (Erick), Rebekah VandeWalle (Brett), Aaron Olson (Jenni), and Andrew Olson (Kiahna) and 19 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 31, 2023 at Deep Run Original Free Will Baptist Church in Deep Run with burial following in the church cemetery.
