William S. Rice (Steve), 75, of Middleburg, Florida passed peacefully on March 25, 2023.

Steve was born on February 28, 1948 to William and Rose Rice in Louisville, Kentucky. After graduating from Fairdale High School, Steve went on to serve his country, honorably in the U.S. Army. After his tour of duty in Vietnam, Steve returned to begin his 40 year career with L&N Railroad and retired in 2008.

Steve’s pride and joy were his grandkids. Whether it was attending soccer games, countless baseball games and tournaments, cookouts along with swimming, or graduations…. He was always there to support them. Upon retirement, you would find Steve cheering on a few of his favorite sports teams such as UK Wildcats, Jacksonville Jaguars, and the Boston Red Sox while having a cold beer.

Steve is survived by his partner Brenda Ballinger, former spouse Deborah Rice and their children Stephanie Howard (Randy), Brandon Rice (Amber), Whitney Rice (Shane); grandchildren Shelby, Savannah, Michaela, Gavin, Josh, and Rylan; sister Rosemary (Don) Stringfield.

A small Memorial is arranged at The Jacksonville National Cemetary for Thursday, March 30th at 10:00am.

Following the family welcome all family and friends to Steve’s favorite place and to attend Whiteys Fish Camp for a celebration of life!
