<p>Ernest Leo Comerford</p><p><br></p><p>With great sorrow, the family announces the passing of Ernie Comerford at University Hospital in London, Ontario on Friday, March 24, 2023 at the age of 81. Beloved husband of Judy for 59 years. Loving father of Diana Pinkney (Gerry) and Glen Comerford (Susan). Proud Grandpa of Alicia, Joshua and Jillian. Predeceased by his younger sister Gail (Marti). Brother-in-law to Glen Churchill (Jan).</p><p><br></p><p>Ernie was loved by many for his generous spirit, kind heart and his never-ending dedication to helping others. A passionate and well respected school teacher/administrator in Ottawa, Nunavut and the Northwest Territories, Mr. C was an inspiration to many. After teaching, Ernie transitioned to the Government of the NWT and became the Chief of Staff to the Premier of the Northwest Territories. He was a decades long active member of The Lions Club and The Canadian Curling Association. Ernie was an award-winning National Youth Curling Coach, and a pioneer and advocate of Wheelchair Curling in Canada. In 2017, he was the recipient of the Ron Foster Volunteer of the Year Award for Parasport Ontario. </p><p><br></p><p>The family wishes to thank the many doctors and nurses for their care over the years. Special thanks to the palliative doctors and nurses at University Hospital in London. Thanks to the staff at Oakcrossing Retirement Home for their care and support, and to the many friends in the residence. </p><p><br></p><p>The Memorial Service for Ernie will be held at the McFarlane & Roberts Funeral Home, 2240 Wharncliffe Road South, London, Ontario on Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at 7:00 p.m., beginning with a Lions Memorial Service. Cremation has taken place. Please no flowers due to family allergies. Donations to the Arthritis Society of Canada https://arthritis.ca or to the charity of your choice.
