Olive "Peggy" Margaret Sartori Obituary

Fuquay-Varina- Olive “Peggy” Sartori, 88, passed away Friday, March 24, 2023. She was born June 27, 1934, in Harriman, NY, she was the daughter of the late George J. Wilford Jr. and Johanna (Josephine) M. Treacy.

Upon the untimely passing of her father George, Peggy was raised at the age of eight by her mother Josephine. Peggy is also preceded in death by her sister Beatrice M. Cullinane and twin brother George J. Wilford.

As a young girl, Peggy attended St. Patrick’s Academy in Harriman, NY and shortly thereafter moved to Port Jervis, NY where she attended St. Mary’s Catholic School. Peggy graduated on her birthday on June 27, 1948, and received $25 for having the highest grades on the State Regents Academy program.

While attending Port Jervis High School Peggy did most of the typing for the 1952 Senior Yearbook Club as a member of the editorial staff. She was also the President of the Shorthand Club, Secretary of the Spanish Club, and President of the Girl’s Athletic Association where she enjoyed playing basketball, tennis, and volleyball.

After graduating high school on June 24, 1952, Peggy was accepted into St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Brooklyn, NY. In the summer of 1955, Peggy and a group of student nurses studied at the Harlem Valley State Hospital in Wingdale, NY which was a hospital for the mentally insane. This is where Peggy met her future husband Thomas who held a summer job while college was not in session. Thomas was working in the recreational department and is where she accepted his home phone number for their first date.

Peggy and Thomas shared almost 66 years together before her passing. Her times with Thomas included the happiest years of her life.

Peggy spent her career working as an RN at Vassar Hospital in Poughkeepsie, NY, St. Benedictine Hospital in Kingston, NY, Rhinebeck Hospital in Rhinebeck, NY and as an assistant librarian for Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY. She retired at the young age of 54 in Summerville, SC and enjoyed Charleston and the beaches of SC.

Peggy and Thomas raised three children Debra A. Sartori, Linda A. McCallister and Thomas Sartori Jr and spent their summers camping across the eastern shores of the US and at their cottage near Bar Harbor Maine. Each child meant another move to a new house.

Peggy loved spending time with her family, attending church, all her pets, sports, travel, plays, sewing, knitting, crocheting, jigsaw puzzles, reading novels and spending time at the beach. She was a Brooklyn Dodgers fan until they moved west and had to adopt the Yankees. Peggy was an avid football fan. Christmas was her favorite holiday and being half Irish St. Patrick’s Day had a special place in her heart.

Peggy is survived by her husband Thomas Sartori Sr, her daughter Debra A. Sartori of Holly Springs, NC, daughter Linda A. (Sartori) McCallister and husband Timothy of Summerville, SC, son Thomas Sartori Jr. of Cary, NC; her grandchildren who called her Nana, Sarah McCallister and husband Brandon Montano, Thomas Sartori III, Steven M. Sartori, Joseph M. McCallister and Isabella G. Sartori and great grandchild Liam A. Montano.
