Leona Louise Doell Obituary

Leona was born in Selkirk, Manitoba to Patrick and Ruth Hood. She was one of six children and always treasured the relationships she had with her siblings and their families. There are quite a few stories from her days growing up that were a testament to how fun and adventurous she was.

In 1963 Leona headed out west to Alberta with a girlfriend, not really sure what they were going to find but were up for the adventure. She then came across a strapping, charming young man named Peter Doell when they landed in Taber. She then called home to her family in Selkirk and said she was getting married. They wed on April 24th, 1965, at St. Clements church in Selkirk, Manitoba.

They started their family with Kevin born in December 1965, Debbie in May of 1968, then Sean in May of 1973. She has a lot of pride in her family and kept them busy growing up. Debbie often complained how she was drug around the countryside to Kevin’s swim meets but met a lot of great people along the way. They settled in Pincher Creek where they established some sturdy roots for their growing family.

She always enjoyed visiting with her family and friends enjoying a cold Canadian, preferably in a glass. If she was having another drink, she made sure it was known she needed lots of ice! Going down to the Legion for the Saturday meat draw, where she would often win something to cook alongside her famous buns, meatballs, pies, and the list goes on and on. Anyone and everyone were always welcome to sit down to Leona’s delicious dinners.

Leona’s love of Elvis was always evident. Whenever a song came on by the king she would hop out of her chair and start dancing, no matter how old she was. You would hear the “Whoohoo” and see those arms up dancing to the beat. She was always up for a good time, especially listening to Elvis.

Leona was always a strong independent woman. She never wanted to ask for help and would go to battle for those who she loved and cared about. She would always be there if you needed her without any hesitation.

Leona is predeceased by her beloved husband Peter, daughter-in-law Denise, and daughter Debbie. Leona is survived by her sons Kevin and Sean (Sarah), grandchildren Coady (Alix), Ashley, Mik (Jess), Foxx, and Suzy. As well as her great-grandchildren Carson and Chase. She also leaves behind her beloved family in Selkirk all the way to Cranbrook, as well as many family members and close friends in Pincher Creek.

A Private Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
