Clarence Branson Obituary

Clarence Edward Branson, age 95, of Holts Summit, Mo., passed away Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on August 30, 1927, in Linn, Mo., the son of William Alonzo and Bessie Alice (Lairmore) Branson. He was married on May 1, 1978, in Miami, Okla. to Shirley Jean Myers who survives in the home.

Clarence attended School in Linn, Mo. then in January of 1946, Clarence joined the United States Army and was stationed in Soeul, Korea post WWII. Clarence proudly served as a Rifleman with the K Company of the 31st infantry. After his military service, he went on to start Atlas Heating and Air which he owned and operated from 1956 until 1974. Clarence then accepted a position with the Missouri Department of Design and Construction where he worked until his retirement in 1993.

Clarence liked to keep busy and was a “world class piddler.” He was most comfortable outside whether it was spending time tinkering on cars, tending to his vegetable garden, or hunting racoons. He enjoyed Western books and movies and loved traveling in his motor home. Clarence was an ornery and witty man with a soft spot for his family, they were his greatest passion. They will cherish memories of time spent fishing in the pond and will remember him for his easy going demeanor, playful sense of humor, and the love he demonstrated to each of them.

Clarence is survived by: his loving wife of 45 years, Shirley; six children, Barb Jones (Jim) of Holts Summit, Mo., Mary Jo Hartley (John) of Lohman, Mo., Patty Pappas of Jefferson City, Mo., Jackie Kindell of Cairo, Mo., Brandy Platten (John) of Holts Summit, Mo., and Joann Jinson of Jefferson City, Mo.; 18 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; and lots of extended family members and cherished friends.
