Aquilla F. Formica Atlantic City, New Jersey Obituary

Aquilla F. Formica

Aquilla F. Formica 89 of Atlantic City, passed away peaecefully on March 17, 2023.

When your mother passes away, the words in an obituary can hardly express the love, joy and sorrow felt by all whom she touched. Aquilla Frances Cesario was born on the 4th of July 1933 in Atlantic City, NJ. The middle child of 3 to Joseph and Elvira (Rizzuto) Cesario. At 17 she married the love of her life Mario J. Formica. They would forge a life of happiness, family and joy for the next 50 years. Like all Italian moms and Mom Moms she would become famous for her cooking, especially her meatballs. They especially went well with her husbands bread from Formica Brothers Bakery. And if you were lucky enough to know her- she would make some and deliver them to you.

Her first job was mom and homemaker, then working alongside her husband and son in the bakery, where she was the pizza shell queen. But it was working with her childhood friends Ralph and Fuzzy Sacco at their sub shop Sack-O-Subs in Ventnor, that she found her career joy, making friends by the hundreds with her wit, and comedic personality. Many became lifelong friends and many called her Mom. She would counsel and console, and laugh and cry with them as they trusted her motherly touch.

With 5 children, 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren she perfected her passionate love for babies and children. The loss is immense and the sadness will linger, but the joy in our hearts of her memories will comfort.

Aquilla is predeceased by her husband Mario J. Formica, parents Joseph and Elvira Cesario; brother Michael Cesario; sister Josephine Kingsbauer; and grandson Richard Link. She is survived by her daughter Rosanne Link; sons Frank, Joseph, Mario and Dominick Formica, grandchildren Donna Lynn McKeon, Rachel Formica, Marie Formica, Frank L. Formica, Michele Link, Mario Formica, Jr., Danielle Formica; sister-in-law Anne Formica; and 10 great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated for Aquilla F. Formica 11:00 am Saturday, March 25, 2023 at St. Michaels Church 10 North Mississippi Avenue Atlantic City, NJ. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the church from 9:00am. (additional parking is available behind the Church -off Georgia Avenue).

The Rite of Committal will be offered at the Atlantic City Cemetery, Route 9 and the Black Horse Pike in Pleasantville, NJ (08232), following Mass.

Arrangements by the Gormley Funeral Home LLC/AC (gormleyfuneralhomellc.com).

Another one of the great basketball moms of St. Michael's Class of 1974. Always in the stands cheering us on at CYO games and working the kitchen for biddy games. I'll never forget Mrs. Formica and how good she was to me. God bless her

What can I say about Aunt Accie? She was definitely the wild & crazy sister, & we spent many summer vacations enjoying her cooking & laughing with her. She would take us to the beach & the Steel Pier & get us into any attraction we wanted. I loved her Sicilian pizza! ... Continue Reading
