Mark Anthony Emelio

<p>Mark Anthony Emelio, 65, passed away on Thursday, March 16, 2023, surrounded by his family in the comfort of his home. He was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, and grandfather. His children recall him taking them to many Red Birds and River Bats baseball games while they were growing up. He was an avid Washington Commanders and Baltimore Orioles fan. His hobbies included anything to do with guns, ammo, building models, riding his Harley, gardening, and playing Euchre.</p><p><br></p><p>Upon graduating from high school, he honorably served in the U.S. Army for 17 years. He then went on to study Computer Science at Ivy Tech and eventually joined the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. While serving with the Corps, he served three tours in Iraq and one in Afghanistan.</p><p><br></p><p>Mark struggled with addiction for a period of time. This struggle led him to help countless veterans and others overcome their own struggles through counseling and leading A.A. meetings. He served as a representative in court for fellow veterans that participated in the A.A. program. He helped them by answering their calls at all hours. This service to others even led him be featured in two podcasts on the subject.</p><p><br></p><p>He is survived by his wife Jamie Wilcoxson-Emelio of Jeffersonville, IN; children Stacey Duggan (Heather) of Tampa, FL, Marcus Emelio (Natalie) of Dupont, WA, Christine Spencer of Pueblo, CO, and Bradley Coomer of LaGrange, KY; step-children Cole Wilcoxson (Kaylee) of Charlestown, IN, Cydney Beyl (Eric) of Memphis, IN, Travis Jones of Salt Lake City, UT; nephew Jacob Wisner (Kate) of South Bend, IN, and niece Sandra Wong (Greg) of South Bend, IN; siblings James Anthony Emelio of Stafford, VA, Rose Emelio of Winchester, VA, Richard Emelio of Topeka, KS, Susie Haselden of Winchester, VA, and Barry Lynch of Jeffersonville, IN; grandchildren Austin, Carson, Annabelle, and Cooper.</p><p><br></p><p>He is preceded in death by his father Dominic Emelio; mother Doris Emelio; sister Cheryl Emelio; son in law Casey Spencer.</p><p><br></p><p>Private services will be held by the family. His remains will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery.</p><p><br></p>

Mark and I served together at Ft. Knox in the early 1990's. We had some great times together! We kept in touch over the years, Kim and I will miss him greatly.
