Oma Luhman, age 90, of Radcliffe, IA, passed away on Saturday, March 18, 2023 at Northridge Village in Ames, IA.

Oma Lenore Luhman was born on August 19, 1932 on her grandparents’ farm near Williams, IA. She was the daughter of Eli and LaVerna (Evans) Swenson.

She received her education in rural schools. Oma graduated from the Radcliffe High School in 1950. In 1952, she graduated from Waldorf College with a two-year teaching degree. She taught at McCallsburg for two years.

On June 5, 1953, Oma was united in marriage to Dean Luhman in Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. She was a mother, housewife, farm wife, where she made many, many meals over the years. After the kids went to school, she worked as a teacher’s aide for many years. After that she cleaned homes in the Ames area and then worked at the Security State Bank in Radcliffe.

Oma was a very active person. Her biggest joy was going to the kids and grandkids events, shopping and going to craft shows with her girls.

Oma was a very active member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. Oma was a very strong woman and lived her life faithfully.

She was a Brownie Leader, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Red Hat Society and Needle Circle.

Oma passed away on Saturday morning, March 18, 2023 at the Northridge Village in Ames, IA.

Those thankful for having shared her life include her husband Dean of Ames; five children Becky Jensen of Nevada, Deb (Jack) Norem of Roland, Sandy (Bill) Wheeler of Radcliffe, Barb (Rodney) Jolin of Moss, TN and Mike (Lisa) Luhman of Radcliffe; ten grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; along with many other relatives and friends.

Oma was preceded in death by her parents Eli and LaVerna, brother Larry and wife LaVelle, sons-in-law Jerry Jensen and Ronnie Weig, and one great grandson Owen Feller.
