Elizabeth Blanton Broaddus Cox

<p>COX, Elizabeth Blanton Broaddus, of Richmond, died Wednesday, March 15, 2023. Betty was born in Bowling Green, Va. on January 12, 1938 to Reuben Hancock Broaddus Sr. and Virginia Blanton Broaddus. She was preceded in death by her parents; as well as her son, Frederic Hamilton Cox III; and her sister, Claire Broaddus Matthews. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Frederic Hamilton Cox Jr.; her daughter, Margaret Cox Stott (Timothy Jameson Stott); her son, Reuben Garnett Cox Sr., (Cerise Ann Cox); her grandchildren, Josephine Tyler Stott, Elizabeth Jameson Stott, Reuben Garnett Cox Jr., Sophia Ann Cox and James Tyler Cox, all of Richmond. She is also survived by her brother, Reuben Hancock Broaddus Jr. of Richmond; her sisters, Virginia Broaddus Glover of Fort Monroe, Va. and Katherine Broaddus Blue of Baltimore, Md.; as well as many nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews.</p><p>Betty graduated from St. Catherine’s Episcopal School in Richmond, Virginia, Endicott College in Beverly, Mass. and Richmond Professional Institute (now Virginia Commonwealth University) where she received her teaching degree. She taught at several schools in the Richmond area including Skipwith Elementary School. She was very active in the Richmond community, volunteering and serving in various organizations. She was a member of the Junior League, serving in various roles including being on the Board as Treasurer and Provisional Chair. She was a member of the Mayflower Society of Virginia. As a member of the Colonial Dames of Virginia she began volunteering in the 1980s and continued through to the present. Her various roles included Serving on the Board of Mangers as Registrar and Vice Chairman, Nominating Committee Chair, Bylaws Committee Chair, Development Committee Co-Chair and Personnel Committee Chair. In 2002, she was placed on the National Roll of Honor for her service to the National Society of Colonial Dames of America-Virginia. A member of The Woman’s Club since 1961, she served on Bolling Haxall House Foundation Board and Restore a Living Landmark Steering Committee. Betty was a lifelong valued member of the Junior and Senior Boards of Children’s Hospital Foundation, and was President of the Senior Board in 2002. She was an active member of St. James’s Episcopal Church from teaching Sunday School to serving as President of the Episcopal Church of Women (ECW), to serving on the Stewardship and Rector’s Search Committee.</p><p>Family and friends will be received at Bliley’s Funeral Home - Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Avenue, Thursday, March 23, 2023 from 5 to 7 p.m.</p><p>A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 24, 2023 at 11 a.m. at St. James Episcopal Church, 1205 West Franklin Street, Richmond, Va. 23220. Interment at Hollywood Cemetery, with a reception following at St. James Episcopal Church Michaux House.</p><p>In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make donations to the Children’s Hospital Foundation and St. James’s Episcopal Church.</p><p><br></p>
