Evelyn B. Notley

<p>Born Evelyn Fontain Burke, she was daughter to the late Ruth and David Wilbur Burke in Queens, New York. Evelyn was the middle of three sisters, Gladys Burke and Carol Burke (Christensen). Growing up, she lived in an apartment above a pizzeria on Jamaica Avenue. In 1961, she met the love of her life, Walter Thomas Notley, and they married June, 1962. The couple settled down in East Meadow, Long Island where they raised their two children, Debra Ann and Thomas Walter.</p><p>In her early years, Evelyn worked as a secretary for the President of U.S. Steel, an administrator for Holly Patterson Nursing Home, and finally as an office manager for the Public Administrator in Nassau county. When her children were in school, she was a well-known volunteer and ultimately President of the East Meadow ISD PTA.</p><p>Always the devoted grandparents, Evelyn and Walter followed their children to Texas in 2003. Aside from her strong New York accent, Evelyn assimilated into Texas culture and quickly became the life of the party wherever she went. She soon discovered the Flower Mound Senior Center and made many good friends and traveling buddies there. After Walter passed away in 2011, she moved in with her son Tom and his family. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and they were uniquely blessed to have grown up with her in their daily lives.</p><p>Evelyn passed away from this life on St. Patrick’s day, March 17, 2023.</p><p>In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Walter Notley. She is survived by her sisters, Gladys Burke and Carol Christensen. She is also survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Glenn Kimball, her son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Misty Notley, and seven grandchildren, Charlotte Kimball, Erin Kimball, Andrew, Caroline, Marygrace, Elizabeth, and Jenny Lyn Notley.</p><p>Evelyn and Walter Notley left a legacy of love and laughter to those lucky enough to have known them. They are terribly missed.</p><p><br></p>
