Joseph C. Bascio, 85, of Springfield, died at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, March 17, 2023, at Springfield Memorial Hospital.

Joe was born August 3, 1937, in Springfield, IL, the son of William and Eleanor Farrar Bascio. He married Nancy Glavette on December 28, 1957, in Springfield; she preceded him in death on November 8, 2013.

Joe graduated from Cathedral Boys High School. He retired as a warehouse manager for Henson Robinson Company. Joe was a member of St. Katharine Drexel Parish at Sacred Heart Church and the Springfield Sports Hall of Fame as a Friend of Sport. He coached youth baseball for 32 years. Joe enjoyed playing and watching baseball, collecting western memorabilia, spending time with his family and rooting for the Chicago Cubs.

Joe is survived by his children, Sally (Anthony C.) Bradway of Alamogordo, NM, Joseph W. (Diana) Bascio of Springfield, and Andrea Bascio of Springfield; five grandchildren, Anthony K. Bradway of Alamogordo, NM, Lauren Bascio of Chicago, Blane Flanagan of Springfield, Justin Flanagan of Springfield, and Anna Coffin of Minier, IL; and one great-granddaughter, Delaney Flanagan of Springfield.

Visitation: Family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 23, 2023, at Butler Funeral Home-Springfield, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield, IL. Visitation will begin with a prayer service.

Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 24, 2023, at St. Katharine Drexel Parish at Sacred Heart Church, 730 S. 12th St., Springfield, IL with Rev. James Isaacson, S.J.C., celebrant.

Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
