William Tirabasso, of Orangeburg, NY, passed away on March 18, 2023.

Willy was born on January 9, 1929 to Claudio and Delfina Tirabasso in Staten Island, NY. From the age of 3, he was raised in Oratino, Italy. He attended the Istituto Tecnico where he studied surveying and was a big traveling soccer star.

Upon returning to the United States, his career in the garment industry started at age 19 where he worked with Christian Dior. He was drafted into the Army to serve from 1951-1953 during the Korean War. He served in the Intelligence Branch, translating the American orders into Italian.

Upon discharge, through the GI bill, Willy attended what is now know as the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) studying pattern making, grading and cutting. He was a top man in his field, sought after by many in the bridal industry.

Willy met the love of his life, Vera Oliva. They married in 1959. Willy was a devoted husband to his wife and wonderful father to his children, Claudia and William. He was a loving grandfather to Aston and Preston Jacobs.

Willy was a fabulous son-in-law. He loved his family, good Italian food, especially Vera’s home cooking. He loved his pasta ‘painted red’ and chianti wine. He was an avid soccer fan, enjoyed music and traveling with Vera. Everyone who knew Willy considered him a kind gentleman.
