Evan Southworth Watson, 58, passed away Thursday March 16 th , 2023 after a long illness with his sisters
Cheryl Cooper and Shelley McKnight by his side. Evan was born on March 8 th , 1965 to his loving parents
Brent and Carole (Southworth) Watson in Delaware, Ohio. Evan leaves to cherish his memory his mother
Carole Watson; sisters Cheryl Cooper and Shelley McKnight; and brother Eric Watson. Evan joins in rest
and the eternal glory of heaven his father Brent Watson; grandmother Lillian Mills; and grandparents
Mabel and Billy Southworth.
Evan was a man wealthy in the ways that matter most to a meaningful life. He was a man of great
character, integrity, faith, and charity. He carved out his own purpose through his passion of tending to
and being a part of nature by starting and building up his own company, Evan Watson Landscaping. So
few are able to work and be accountable to themselves and to be truly successful in this risk requires
sincerity and diligence. His success in his life’s work truly attested to the character inherent to him.
Evan was gregarious. He had a deep and sincere love for people. It is a quality that not only helped his
business to flourish but also provided him a large and loyal circle of companions. Evan found a need in
every heart for which he cared and would do anything and everything to provide for that need no
matter how big or how small. He would be the first person to pick up the phone to check in and the last
person to ask anyone of anything. He understood the value of people and the priceless return of service
to his fellow man.
Evan was a spiritual person. Finding a personal relationship with Christ that he embodied in how he
effected and interacted with the world and God’s creation. He worked with his hands, making them
weathered and hardened; using the gifts that God had given him to mold and form the soil to bring
peace and joy to those he served. Evan could hardly be torn from the embrace of the outdoors. Beyond
his profession, Evan loved to partake in the ancient tradition of reaping the fruits of the dominion over
which God has given us authority. Evan loved to fish and hunt, often saying he believed he was born too
late; missing out on the time when man’s survival was left up to his own skill with a rifle, rod or bow
rather than a quick trip to the grocery store. That was one of the defining aspects of his relationship with
his father; their passion for hunting. They both were members of the Grand Hotel Hunt Club in
Colorado. He never hunted for sport but for sustenance to provide for his own needs and to selflessly
provide for those he loved.
Of all the accomplishments and competencies Evan had achieved in life, he was profoundly humble. He
was caring, compassionate and self-sacrificing to a fault. It wasn’t that he was too proud to ask for help,
more as a missionary takes the burden of hardship upon himself to do God’s work in the darkness of
suffering, so too Evan saw his place the world. No man’s burden was lesser than his own which sadly left
us to learn of Evan’s own illness too late. Though too short was our time with Evan, it was a time as rich
if not far more valuable than the life which Evan had built for himself. In this we not only mourn the loss
of a brother, son and friend but the loss of a man that was a model by which we could strive to be more
like.
The family will be holding private services at a later date.
