Bruce Roy CLELAND Obituary

It is with great sadness, the family of Bruce Roy Cleland announces his passing on February 18, 2023.

Born in Grande Prairie, Alberta to Roy and Jennie Cleland on December 30, 2023, Bruce was the oldest of 3 children.  Bruce grew up in the small farming community of Halcourt, Alberta.  In 1953, he followed work to Kitimat, BC and the following year became employed with Alcan Aluminium Smelter.  In 1959, Bruce married Ethel (nee White) and together they raised 2 children.  Bruce retired from Alcan on January 1, 1992 staying in Kitimat until October of 2006 when they relocated to Port Alberni, BC.

Bruce had a lifelong love of music and played the steel guitar and dobro in several country and blue grass bands.

A Charter Member of the Elks Club in Kitimat,  Bruce held the title of Exalted Ruler for some time.  He remained an active member for over 50 years.

Bruce is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Ethel; his son, Jerry (Sherry) and daughter, Joy (Stephen); 8 grandchildren, Sarah, Colin, riley (Tracey), Erin, Jarrett, Amy (Anders), James, and Jennie (Stuart); 6 great grandchildren, Taylor, Matthew, Ethan, Alexander, Alice, and Eva.

Bruce/Dad/Poppa – thank you for your love, the music, Saturday morning breakfasts, the reminder that ketchup belongs on everything (including ice cream, whisker rubs, endless teasing, “and that and that, and that . . .”.
