Charles Anthony Maccini Obituary

Charles Anthony Maccini, 85, of Cotuit, formerly of Wellesley, MA passed away on March 16, 2023. “Charlie” is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Leigh (Richards) Maccini, and his devoted children; Margaret “Meg” Maccini of Ashland, Alec Maccini of Boston and Jonathan Maccini, his wife Nicole and their son Justin of Natick.

He was the son of the late Charles and Eleanor (DeLuca) Maccini and predeceased by his younger siblings, Lorraine and Michael. He is survived by his sister Charlotte Peterson of Natick, her children Mitchell, Greg and Chris, Felicia (Flynn) Roche of Dennis, MA and his cousins, John Maccini of Wellesley, Peter (Lisa) Maccini, Robert (Ann) Maccini and Joseph Maccini of New Hampshire.

Charlie was a member of the Class of 1955 at Wellesley High School. From there he served in the United States Air Force as an aircraft electrician during the Korean Conflict. He had a long and successful career as a Director of Facilities at the New England Conservatory of Music, The College of the Holy Cross and Regis College. During his tenure at The College of the Holy Cross, and during the national energy crisis in the 1970s, Charlie became a forerunner and expert in energy conservation. He authored the booklet, Ways to Beat the Energy Crisis in the Home, helping thousands of people to understand the importance of conserving energy and how to implement simple strategies to save money. For the last twenty years of his career until his retirement, he founded and operated The Lighting Workshop in Wellesley MA. The “shop”, as family called it, was located close by his childhood home on Donizetti Street. There Charlie combined his training as a licensed electrician with his love and appreciation of antiques to refurbish and preserve antique lighting fixtures. His son, Jon, still owns and operates the shop, now known as Wellesley Antique Lighting.

Charlie had many interests and hobbies, and he immersed himself thoroughly in whatever his interest. Two such interests were cars and antiques. He loved to work on classic cars, which he did his entire life. His favorite car was the 1936 Ford five window coupe with a modified flathead V8 he owned in high school. Charlie was also a passionate fan of NEMA open wheel and Indy Car racing. He was an enthusiastic collector and had eclectic taste. He appreciated the craft, artistry, detail and beauty of objects. Charlie could be found on any given day “poking” in shops around New England alone or with his children, or happily tinkering in his workshop while listening to Frank Sinatra.

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, March 23rd at 1:00pm at the Cotuit Federated Church, located at 40 School Street, Cotuit, MA. At a later date, Charlie will be buried at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA.
