SHAFER, William Victor - age 77 formerly of Fenton, died March 13, 2023, in North Carolina. A memorial service will be held at 9 AM Friday, May 5, 2023, at Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI. Flowers may be sent to Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel or memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Dementia Society of America. William was born May 8, 1945, in Richland, OH, the son of Donald Carl and Marie (Kessler) Shafer. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in Vietnam. William married Donna S. Jervis on December 20, 1969. He was a police officer in Defiance, OH for five years before moving to Fenton, MI. William was a police officer for the City of Fenton for 22 years. He loved playing cards and enjoyed golfing and fishing and was an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan. Surviving are: wife, Donna S. Shafer; six children, Matthew (Heather) Shafer of Davisburg; Eric Shafer of Washington State, Wade Shafer of North Carolina, Adam (Beth) Shafer of Linden, Aaron (Stacey) Shafer of North Carolina; and Jessica Shafer of North Carolina; 13 grandchildren, Sawyer, Kayden, Kamryn, Kolton, Karsen, Anna, Alex, Victoria, Veronica, Vannessa, Grace, Grant, Gabriel; five great-grandchildren, Alaina, Brayden, Milo, Zander, and Walker; brother, John Shafer; sister, Donneen Shafer. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Donald and Gary Shafer; sister-in-law, Linda Shafer. Arrangements by Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 W.
