Thurman Junius [T. J.] Davis 87, of Havana, FL. passed away on Thursday, March 16, 2023 at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, March 23, 2023 at Faith Funeral Home Chapel in Havana. His family will receive friends at 1:00 P.M. prior to the service. Private family interment will be held at Tallahassee National Cemetery.

T. J. was born on July 23, 1935 in Lumberton, NC. To the late Thurman Davis and the late Lessie Pate Davis. After High School,  T. J. enlisted in the US Navy and became Staff Sergeant serving 4 yrs.  T. J. rode a Destroyer in the Navy and saw the world, and he was in during the Korean War.  When he returned home he enlisted in the Reserves. He was employed with the US Postal Service for 34 years as a mail carrier, station superintendent, and later Postmaster in Havana for 20 years. He was also President of the Havana Town Council and became Mayor (serving over 30 years) He truly loved Havana and the people here!

T. J. started out playing softball in Tallahassee of which he met and made many friends.  It was his first love before Golf.  Due to a problem that led to no longer playing softball, he took up Golf,  his second love.  He played many hours with his buddies.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary Violet Lord Davis. Son David Earl Davis (wife Candy) and David’s Daughter  Sarah Catherine Davis  (Sarah’s Son Luke Ryant Defend). His daughter  Iris Catherine Mercier, Sons, Jordan Mercier (wife Bekah) and Taylor Nipper. His brothers  Horace Davis (deceased), Haywood Davis (wife Carolyn) , Danny Davis, and Tommy Miller (deceased). His sisters  Sarah Clapp, Tempe, Barbara Peters, (deceased), Sheila Miller Ridgely (husband Scott). Also step-father James Miller (deceased)

T. J. loved Life and People. He had a Big Heart and a Big Smile.
