Roy L. Pool Obituary

Roy L. Pool, age 90, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at 11:20 am at the Wyandot County Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Upper Sandusky.

Roy was born on August 1, 1932, in Upper Sandusky, Ohio to Lewis and Doris (Kramer) Pool, both of whom are deceased.  He married Carol Ann Schwilk on May 6, 1956, in the Harpster United Methodist Church and she passed away on February 21, 2015.

He is survived by his daughter, Tonia (Bill) Kitzler of Carey, Ohio, 8 grandchildren Stacy Pool and Teresa (Taylor Price) Scott of Upper Sandusky, Heather (Greg) Gault of Findlay, Katie (Jerry) Simon of Westerville, Zachary Kitzler of Columbus, Brad (Brittney) Kitzler of Marysville, Samantha Gallant of Upper Sandusky, and Maria (Lyle) Higgins of Kirby, 13 great grandchildren , and 2 sisters, Carol (Larry) Bare of Upper Sandusky, and Ethel Bishop of Madison, Mississippi. 

Roy was preceded in death by his son Todd Pool, and daughter, Tamara Scott, 2 brothers, Edwin Pool and Alfred Pool and 2 sisters, Mary Louise Snyder, and Esther Merwine.

Roy was a  US Army Veteran of the Korean War.  Returning home after the war, he started working for Gerald and Romaine Pfeifer on their farm, and then from there he started working for the US Commission Company/Heritage Cooperative in Upper Sandusky. 

He was a lifelong member of the Harpster United Methodist Church.

Roy and Carol spent many years wintering in Englewood, Florida.  Roy enjoyed riding his bicycle, and gardening, having earned the reputation to be able to grow anything, especially his muskmelons. 

A memorial service for Roy Pool will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at the Harpster United Methodist Church with Rev. Doug Kendrick officiating.  Burial will follow at Little Sandusky Cemetery where military graveside rites will be conducted by the Upper Sandusky Color Guard. 

Visitations will be held on Friday, March 24, from 5pm to 7pm at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, and at Harpster UMC one hour before the memorial service.
