Alan D. Guisewite

<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Alan D. Guisewite, 74, passed away on March 12, 2023 at UPMC Shadyside, Pittsburgh. </p><p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; He was born Oct. 7, 1948 in Utica, NY, to Myron L. Guisewite&nbsp;and Beverly G. Sarle.&nbsp; Alan graduated Penn Hills High School in 1966 and received&nbsp;an associate’s degree in Electronics Engineering Technology from CCAC Boyce in 1972.&nbsp; </p><p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; He enjoyed a long and fulfilling career of 5 decades at Carnegie Mellon University.&nbsp; Upon celebrating his 50th year of service, CMU honored Alan's dedication with a graduate tuition fellowship.&nbsp; His legacy will live on helping students achieve their academic goals with less financial burden. </p><p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Alan was an avid mineral enthusiast with an extensive collection which will be received by the Carnegie Museum of Natural History in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.&nbsp;&nbsp;Alan’s collection, which exceeds over 10,000 specimens of worldwide origin, contains the largest number of individual and rare mineral species that has ever been donated to the Carnegie Museum of Natural History.&nbsp; Photos of some of Alan's minerals were used on&nbsp;the cover page of The Journal of Physical Chemistry, May 2022 edition and also accompanied the story inside. </p><p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; He will be dearly missed by his friends and colleagues in the CMU community. </p><p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, March 23, 3023 in the Jersey Shore Cemetery Chapel, 1103 Thompson St., Jersey Shore. </p><p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Arrangements are entrusted to Frederick B. Welker Funeral Home, Jersey Shore. </p>

     Alan D. Guisewite, 74, passed away on March 12, 2023 at UPMC Shadyside, Pittsburgh.
