<p>Of Shorewood, passed away peacefully at Lightways Hospice Home surrounded by his family, Tuesday, March 14, 2023. Age 78 years.</p><p></p><p>Survived by his loving wife of 26 years Rosemary Kovis (nee Levandowski). His three children Christine (James) Sharp, Joseph Kovis and Timothy (Krystal) Kovis. Two step-children Karrie (Bob Krieger) Kunke and Kenneth V. (Trenie) Kunke. Six grandchildren Sarah and Jimmy Sharp, Tess, Peyton, Logan and Jaxson Kovis. Two step-grandchildren Madilyn and Morgan Kunke.</p><p><br></p><p>Preceded in death by his first wife Nancy Kovis (1995) and his sister Joyce Kovis.</p><p><br></p><p>Don was born April 22, 1944 in Ottawa, Illinois to the late Joseph and Dorothy Kovis. He graduated from Joliet Catholic High School Class of 1963. After high school, he served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Following his service, Don began working for Caterpillar Tractor Co. where he spent his entire career before retiring after 30 years. Don was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church, where he was known as “paper man” for his dedication to recycling newspapers as a fundraiser for the church. In his free time, Don was an avid sports fan of baseball, football and basketball. He also enjoyed fishing, ducks, watching the rain and thunder from his porch, playing cards and bowling.</p><p><br></p><p>Funeral services will be held at the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home &amp; Crematory, 2320 Black Rd., Monday, March 20th at 12:00 PM. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. Memorials to Lightways Hospice will be appreciated. Visitation will be held Monday from 10:00 A.M. until time of services.</p>
