Edith M. Cannizzaro (nee Baldi), 84, of Highland Lakes, NJ, passed away on March 17, 2023.

Born in Jersey City as the oldest daughter of Charles and Lena Baldi, Edie lived in Union City until the age of 13 when the family moved to Fort Lee. She married Joseph L. Cannizzaro in 1960 and the couple settled in Lincoln Park. Edie called Lincoln Park her home for 40 years, moving to Highland Lakes in 2007, shortly after her retirement.

Edie was a successful career woman at a time when this was rare. She worked diligently from right after secretarial school to her retirement at age 70. Every 10 years or so, Edie would reinvent herself in the corporate world and, with each new career, she enjoyed greater success. She began her work life as a marketing associate for J. Walter Thompson Ad Agency in New York City. She paused her career to raise her children. When she resumed, Edie achieved success as a travel agent, an executive secretary, and a paralegal. She was fastidious, the go-to person in each of her positions, making sure every last detail was taken care of. You knew that if you gave it to Edie, it would get done and done properly.

After Edie retired, she volunteered her talents to the office of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Highland Lakes, and with the church’s Rosary Society. She was an avid football fan, supporting her son and grandsons’ football careers, ringing her famous cowbell at every game to cheer them on. You could be sure to find her every Sunday in the fall watching her beloved Giants and every other football game that was on.

Edie is predeceased by Joseph, her husband of 41 years. She is survived by her children, Lisa Joos, Elaine (Lainie) Cannizzaro, and Joseph Cannizzaro; her son-in-law Mark Joos; her grandsons Ryan Joos, Andy Trainor, Joe Cannizzaro, Matt Cannizzaro, and Dylan Cannizzaro; her sister Linda DeMercurio; her brother Charles J. Baldi, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Her family was always her top priority, as she would ensure that Joe and the kids (Lisa, Lainie, and Joe) were cared for like only an Italian Mom could do. She not only provided for her immediate family that way, but everyone she could. She earned the nickname “Feedie Edie” as she made sure to feed family, neighbors, friends, church goers, at every opportunity with Italian dishes (lasagna, risotto, eggplant parmesan) or her favorite deviled eggs. Cooking for others was at the heart of her caregiving and demonstration of love.

Visitation will be held 4-8 pm Wednesday, March 22nd at the funeral home. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home 10 am Thursday, March 23rd, with burial to follow at Restland Cemetery in East Hanover.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Edith's memory can be made to the Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice (with Home for Hospice in the memo), who cared for her in her last days with compassion and grace.
