It is with great sadness that we the family, announce the passing of our dear husband, father, Papa, and friend, Darren Edward Hurley, on March 15, 2023. Born on February 20th, 1970, he was the son of the late Michael and Madge Hurley of New Waterford.
Darren, or as most would know him as “Red”, was born and raised and spent his adult life here in New Waterford. He was a beautiful and talented musician and he loved his bass and guitar, spending hours playing it. His other hobby was his “bike”, where he spent countless hours four-wheeling in the woods. An avid hockey fan, his favorite team being the Detroit Red Wings, there was often a rivalry in the house anytime the Leaf’s came on to play ‘his team’. Darren was a humorous, kind, and thoughtful soul. He could simply make you laugh with just a look. He will be deeply missed by many, but never forgotten.
He is survived by his loving family; wife Melissa MacCormick; daughters Jesse (Wes), Krista (John) and Robyn; sons Alex and Leland; brothers Joseph ‘Ouja’, Ronald ‘Cookie’, John (Peggy), Michael (Cathy) sisters; Laurie (Jimmy), Iris (Darren), Angel (Norman), Amanda (Steven), Annie (Alec); grandchildren Khloee, Ava & Adam; several nieces and nephews; sister-in-law Gloria as well as numerous people whom he considered as close as family.

He strummed his guitar with such grace,
A melody that could light up the darkest place.
His fingers danced on the strings so effortlessly,
A sound that could calm any storm, so tenderly.
He was a father, a husband, a papa, a brother, and a son.
His love for his family was always so vocal.
He cherished every moment spent with his kin,
A bond that could never be broken, from within.
But suddenly he left us, in the blink of an eye,
A heart-wrenching moment that left us to cry.
His absence is felt every day, so deep,
A loss that we'll forever mourn and keep.
Yet, we know he's still with us, in our hearts,
Playing his guitar, as the music starts.
His memory lives on, in the lyrics he sang,
A love so strong, it will forever hang.
