Filomena A. Krugger Obituary

Filomena A. (Ricci) Krugger, age 97, of Erie went home to the Lord Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at Millcreek Community Hospital. Born in Erie on November 22, 1925, she was daughter of the late Nick and Maria Sofia (Calabrese) Ricci.

Filomena grew up in the Little Italy neighborhood of 17th and Chestnut Street and was a member of St. Paul's Church. She worked at Erie Resistor, Marx Toys and as a teacher’s aide in the Erie School District for many years before retirement.

She was a masterful crocheter, an amateur seamstress, loved Soap Operas, game shows, word searches, crossword puzzles, coloring, and most importantly her family. Her pride and joy was seeing and babysitting her grandkids and great grandkids. Her door was always open, and if you stopped by the first thing she'd do is put a pot of coffee on and make sure you've had enough to eat. She loved her Italian heritage and taught her family to make pasta, pizzelles, braciole, and other delicious spreads. She was the matriarch, a mother figure to many, and the glue that held her family together.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Krugger in 1989; and her siblings, Anthony Ferretta, John Ferretti, Clara Santangelo, Annie Dilimone, Eugene Ricci, Arlene Dargan, Geraldine Moran, and several other relatives.

She leaves behind four children: Gary Krugger, wife Jeanine, Douglas Krugger, wife Christine, Janice Valerio, husband Vincent Jr., and Roberta Smith, husband Anthony. 11 grandchildren: Laura Potoski (Brian), Gary Krugger, Jessica Krugger, Robert Krugger (Franki), Renee Krugger, Alexandria Smith, Emily Saunders (Robert), Rebecca Valerio, Carley Smith, Brenna Valerio, and Anthony Smith Jr. 7 great grandchildren, a beloved nephew, Richard Dilimone, and countless other nieces, nephews, and other family members, all of whom she loved dearly.

Family and friends may call on Sunday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 West 38th St. at Greengarden Blvd. and are invited to a funeral mass Monday at St. George Church at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
