John Henry Williams,Sr. Obituary

John Henry Williams, Sr., was born on October 24,1937 to the late Rochester and Adabell Williams. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Velma Lee Williams; son, John Henry Williams, Jr.; daughters, Carla Mennette and Linda Butler; brothers, Lester, Walter, Horace, Zebbie Lee, and Willie J.; and a son he raised as one of his own, Donnell Flowers.

He accepted Christ and joined Christ C.M.E. Church at an early age.

Over the years, John was dedicated and he wasn’t a stranger to hard work. He started work with Cedar Spring Ply Mill then later stared work with the Early County Road Department. He also started his own lawn service, which he had for many years.

John was affectionally known as “Ole John”. He had a great heart, he loved working, and he was his family’s provider. He helped a lot in the community. He wasn’t a stranger to anyone. He loved being a jokester, watching baseball, teaching his grands how to drive, working on many things, taking up for his grands, and enjoying his family and friends.

On March8,2023, God called one of his precious angels, John Henry Williams, Sr., to eternal rest.

“Ole John” leaves to cherish his everlasting memories: his seven children, Laverne (William) Peterson, Taryn (Steve) Brown, Chundra (Daryl) Oliver, Sheryl Means, Danny McCray, Loretta Mennette, and Latalya Wilson; one sister, Picola Grimes; daughter-in-law, Chrissandra Williams; daughter whom he raised as his own, Shirley Williams; son whom he raised as his own, Labon Greene and a host of others; grandchildren, Tomekia (Michal), Eric, Chris, Latasha, Deddrick, Roddriguez, Kavardis, Ja’Lessia, Bresha, Taralyn, Abbi, Chancellor, Shundra, Breka, Derrick, Shameka, John, Shaneka; 27 great-great grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Bobbie Williams, Joann Williams, and Marjorie Daniels; two special friends, Elliot Moses and Berry Early; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will truly miss him.
