<p>Westernport, MD </p><p>Paul Edward Metz, 77, of Westernport passed away on March 14, 2023. </p><p>Born June 3, 1945, he was the son of the late William Franklin Metz, Sr. and Lillian Virginia (Clayton) Metz. He was also preceded in death by a brother William “Muckle” Metz; and six sisters, JoAnn McConnell, and husband John, Sally Koch and husband Bob, Dorothy Wittneben, Wilhelmina Mancuso and husband Joe, Priscilla Metcalfe and husband Ronnie, Jenny Herman and husband Bill. </p><p>Paul graduated from Bruce High School in 1963. He worked as a Lime Kiln operator and retired from Verso after 44 years. Paul happily served his community whether it was from coaching his son’s athletic teams thru the years, a volunteer with the Potomac Fire Company, serving as a water commissioner for the town of Westernport, a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge, President of the Bruce High Sportsman’s Club and served as Vice President of Bruce High Alumni. </p><p>Paul was a lifelong public servant and served 55 years with the Potomac Fire Company and held the positions of Financial Secretary 1970 to 1972, Assistant Hose Captain 1973 to 1979, Assistant Chief 1980 to 1987, Deputy Chief 1988 to 2003, served on the Board of Directors for 42 years and served as President for 17 years. He held that position longer than any member of the Fire Department's history. </p><p>Family was everything to Paul, he was married to Patty, the love of his life for 55 years. His children were his proudest accomplishments, and his granddaughters stole the remaining pieces of his huge heart. </p><p>Paul is survived by his wife Patricia Ann Metz; sons, Glendale Allen Metz and wife Stacy of Westernport, Gary Paul Metz of Westernport; daughter, India Metz of Tavares, Fl, his granddaughters, Hannah and Sydney Metz of Westernport. Four brothers, Richard “Butch” Metz of San Diego, Robert “Baldy” Metz and wife Betty of Baltimore, Marshall “Marsh” Metz and wife Emma of Keyser, James “Jim” Metz of Hagerstown one sister, Janice Mayhew and husband Pat of Hagerstown and numerous of nieces and nephews. </p><p>Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport on Tuesday, March 21st from 3 to 5 p.m. </p><p>A funeral service will take place following the visitation at 5:00 p.m. with Deacon Harold Bradley officiating and members of the Potomac Volunteer Fire Company No 2 performing last call. </p>
