He attended county school, and at the age of 17, joined the United States Marines and served honorably as a corporal. He married Rose Dinwiddle on November 16, 1955, and had two children, Raymond Jr. and Wanda. After the military, Ray returned to Minnesota and worked as a farmer, built silos and worked for Hoffman Engineering for several years, as well as had a milk route for local creameries. He moved to Florida, where he worked construction and married Betty Rosenberg Sadek. Ray retired early and moved to Las Vegas with Betty, where he lived for 40 years and worked as a fix-it man, restored casino chandeliers, made doll furniture and extravagant black oak cuckoo clocks. He moved back to Foley in 2011 where he spent lots of time tinkering in the garage and building fish houses. He always enjoyed being outdoors and loved deer hunting and fishing (even though he didn’t like to eat fish). He was fortunate to find love a third time and married Jan Friedmann in October of 2020. He enjoyed bonfires in the backyard, eating more hotdogs than humanly possible, bartering at swap meets, playing cards and spending time with friends and family. He typically had a smirk on his face like he was up to something and was ALWAYS willing to help others. Ray was a member of the Foley American Legion, St. John’s Catholic Church and the Foley Lions Club.

Ray is survived by his wife, Jan of Foley, son, Raymond F Otto Jr. and his wife Joanie, Foley, daughter, Wanda J. Espinoza, MA, brother, Joseph H. Otto, Foley. He is also survived by nieces and nephews, 3 grandchildren: Jesse T. Otto, CO., Jeffrey Harlan, MA., Nicholas Harlan, CA., 4 great grandchildren, step children: Victoria (Ken) Jones; Rebecca (Charles) Carston; Raymond (Susie Bradley) Friedmann; Sarah (Ezra) Dalman, 10 step grandchildren: Charles, Catherine, Christopher, Ellie, Hannah, Bailey, Kari, Jenny, Milo and Cash as well as 6 step great grandchildren and many friends he considered family. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Leo, Bob and Conrad.

Because of Ray’s giving nature, memorials to the cause of your choice are preferred in leu of flowers.
