Michael Eugene Polen

<p>Michael Polen, 73, peacefully passed away Tuesday, March 14, 2023 while surrounded by his loving family.&nbsp; He is survived by his loving wife, Gwen Polen (nee Haughton); sisters, Sharon Peloshenko (Walter) and Tammy Deering; children, Michael Polen (Denise), David Polen (Melissa), Andrew Polen (Becky), and Melissa Pfaff (Rich); grandchildren, Briana, Alaina, William, Kayla, Andrew, Jaden, Bianca, Joscelyn, Astella and Ayrica and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.&nbsp; </p><p>Preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Grace Polen and his brother Robert Polen.&nbsp; </p><p>Michael grew up in Hammond, Indiana and attended Hammond Tech High School.&nbsp; Shortly after High School, Michael and Gwen married and spent the next 55 years together.&nbsp; They raised their four children in Highland.&nbsp; When not working at Inland Steel, Michael was always actively involved with his children. &nbsp;&nbsp;Not only did he coach numerous little league teams, but he often referred to himself as the best wiffle ball player in the neighborhood.&nbsp; After retiring from Inland Steel, Michael focused his attention on many of his hobbies and passions which included riding his motorcycle or playing golf.&nbsp; The pride of Michael’s life was his grandchildren and he always made sure he had time to attend the grandkids’ school and sporting events.&nbsp; He was, and always be, one of their biggest fans.&nbsp; </p><p>Michael will be missed by all those who knew and loved him. </p><p>A Memorial Gathering will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2023 from 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM with Sharing of Memories at 3:30 PM at Hillside Funeral Home &amp; Cremation Center, 8941 Kleinman Road Highland, IN. </p><p>For additional information, please contact Hillside Funeral Home &amp; Cremation Center Konnie Kuiper-Michael Kuiper-Vass by calling 219-838-0800 or visiting us at hillsidefhcares.com </p><p>&nbsp; </p>
