Louise T. Swartout Obituary

RAVENA – Louise T. (Foro) Swartout, 102, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her very loving family on March 10, 2023. Born on February 21, 1921. She lived most of her life in Coeymans, NY. Louise was the daughter of the late Luigi and Felicia Foro.

After growing up in Coeymans, NY she married the late Frank Swartout and spent most of her time being a wife and homemaker while owning and running “Frank’s Corner Store” in New Baltimore, NY for many years. Louise enjoyed playing cards with her brother, sisters, nieces and nephews, baking birthday pies and cakes for her family, playing bingo, trips to Turning Stone Casino, playing “31” on holidays, cooking hot peppers, fresh vegetables and eating her own homemade meals, but most of all spending time with her family at picnics while eating clams and watching all of her grandchildren play in her presence.

Louise is survived by her daughter, Ella L. Ruso; her daughter-in-law, Donna Swartout; grandchildren, Tina (Kenny) Burns, Donna (Frank) Chmielewski, Angela Swartout, Allison (Matt) Ruso, Tara (Brian) Burns and Charles Swartout Jr.; 16 great grandchildren; 18 great-great grandchildren; 3 great, great, great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Luigi and Felicia Foro; Husband, Frank Swartout; Son, Charles (Skip) Swartout Sr.; Great Grandson, Brady Chmielewski and her 10 brothers and sisters.

Louise was known to most as “Nana”, she was a strong, quick witted, giving woman who never failed to make you laugh with her dry sense of humor. The impact that she had on her family was her greatest achievement, she taught us all that there is no need to worry, always have patience, and devote time to your family…and bingo.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday, March 17, from 5pm-8pm at Babcock Funeral Home, 19 Pulver Avenue, Ravena, NY 12143. A Mass of Christian burial in her honor will be celebrated on Saturday, March 18 at 10am, in The Church of St. Patrick, 21 Main Street, Ravena, NY. Interment will follow at the Grove Cemetery, Coeymans, NY. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Louise’s memory to the Senior Projects of Ravena, 9 Bruno Blvd., Ravena, NY 12143.
