Elma Jane (Bean) Boyko Obituary

Elma Jane (Bean) Boyko, 94, of Manlius, NY, passed away on March 9, 2023, at Francis House in Syracuse, NY. She was born in Auburn, NY to Harold and Hazel (Lamb) Bean on January 29, 1929. She attended Skaneateles High School (1942-45), Central City Business Institute (1945-46), and graduated from Syracuse University with a BA in 1976 and a Master of Public Administration in 1977. She married Leo L. Boyko in 1963 in Syracuse and moved to Manlius in 1966 where she lived until 2020. She worked for the law firm of William Goldman in Skaneateles, NY, Syracuse Research Corporation (SRC), and as a Mentor at Empire State College. She was active in the League of Women Voters, Rotary Club, and the Ninash Foundation and she was involved in the planning for the Onondaga County Resource Recovery Facility in Jamesville, NY. She loved India and Indian culture and studied Sanskrit, yoga, and made several trips in retirement to visit the country. She started Jana Travel Services with her friend, Pulin Trivedi, to arrange tours of India.

Elma is preceded in death by her parents, brother, husband, and granddaughter, Gwendolyn, as well as her beloved cats, Tara, Vagh, and Marja. She is survived by her sons, Christopher and Braden, their spouses, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Interment will be in Lake View Cemetery, Skaneateles, NY next to her husband and granddaughter.
