Dorothy M. Rudy Obituary

Dorothy M. Rudy, 102, formerly of Susquehanna Township, passed away Monday March 13, 2023 at Rest Haven Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in York.

Born September 29, 1920, in Linglestown, she was a daughter of the late Michael and Lena (Pfarr) Fidel. After attending Susquehanna Township schools, Dorothy was united in marriage with Elmer C. Rudy with whom she shared a devoted union of 58 years prior to his passing on November 16, 1997.

Dorothy never lost the work ethic she learned while growing up on the family farm. Over the years, she was employed at a number of local businesses including Dauphin Shoe Co. and Model City Dry Cleaners. Dorothy retired at the age of 89 after working with her sister for many years at her business, Rabena’s Wardrobe Services in New Cumberland. While she was a kind and caring person, she was also not hesitant to express her opinion. Dorothy was devoted to providing her family with a warm and nurturing home and demonstrated her love for them by often turning a simple meal into a huge feast. At one time, she was a member of Susquehanna Valley Evangelical Free Church and the Harrisburg City Motorcycle Club.

Dorothy is survived by her son, Richard L. Rudy of Manchester; five grandchildren, Russell Rudy, Tammera Jones, Douglas Rudy, Shawn Rudy and Michelle Beck; five great grandchildren and a great-great grandson. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Jack E. Rudy; two infant children, Beverly Ann Rudy and Charles Russell Rudy; her brother, Paul Pfarr and sister, Rebecca Wagner.

Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for her viewing from 9:30 to 10:30 A.M. on Saturday March 18, 2023 at Hetrick-Bitner Funeral Home, Inc., 3125 Walnut Street, Harrisburg, followed by a funeral service at 10:30 A.M. with Pastor Terry Osborne, officiating.  Interment in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org or the Helen O. Krause Animal Foundation at www.helenkrause.org.
