William "Bill" A. Lukenbill

<p>&nbsp; &nbsp; William “Bill” Arret Lukenbill, 94, of Port Byron, IL, formerly of Brownsburg, IN, died Sunday, March 12, 2023 at Unity Point Health – Trinity, Rock Island, IL. A Celebration of Life Service will be planned for a later date in Brownsburg. Memorials may be made to the Brownsburg Legion. Cremation services were provided by Gibson – Bode Funeral Home, Port Byron.</p><p>&nbsp; &nbsp; Bill was born June 23, 1928 in Putnam County, Indiana to Frederick and Nellie (Cox) Lukenbill. He married Margaret Patricia “Pat” Sutherlin on February 6, 1954. Bill served in the US Army during the Korean War with the 44th Engineering Battalion and was awarded a Bronze Star. After his discharge he drove a truck for a few years before becoming a Brick Mason. He spent the last half of his working years doing Freight Work for Yellow Freight. Not wanting to sit around, Bill then worked at Kroger’s grocery store bagging groceries until he was age 90. It was a great way to see people in the community.</p><p>&nbsp; &nbsp; Bill was a member of the Brownsburg American Legion. He was a big sports fan and enjoyed watching his favorite teams, the Indianapolis Colts, Indiana Pacers and Indiana Hoosiers. Some of his hobbies included woodworking, playing guitar, listening to music and playing cards and numerous games with his family and friends. He loved to spend time with his family and will be remembered for his story telling.</p><p>&nbsp; &nbsp; He is survived by his sons, Douglas (Cyndie) Lukenbill, Coatesville, IN, Kirk (Sheila) Lukenbill, Salt Lake City, UT; daughter, Janet Bradley; special grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Ryan and Lanese Wethington, Port Byron, IL; brothers, Marion Lukenbill and Keith (Dot) Lukenbill all of Brownsburg, IN; 7 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren.
