Carrol “Bud” Hines passed away on Tuesday, March 7th at his home in Naperville at the age of 83. He was born in Downers Grove on March 20, 1939 to Carrol Ray Eugene Hines and Margerie Messinger. He lived and went to school there until he moved to California and then Arkansas before he returned to Illinois.

Bud is survived by his loving wife of 48 years Sally, three children and two stepchildren: Suzie Mundschenk (Brad), Lesha Hines, Laura Hines, Scott Lovett (Christine) and Stephanie Faulkner (Andy). His son Mark preceded him in death.

Bud has 12 grandchildren: Chris Jaynes (Holly), Mark Jaynes (Carolyn), Rachel Koch (Carver), Matt Hines (Laura), Rich Hines (Suzette), Angela Hines, Amy Hines, Caitlin Lovett, Janet Lovett, James Lovett, Kyle Faulkner, and Michael Faulkner. He also has 8 great grandchildren: Logan Jaynes, Kelsey Jaynes, Bobby Hines, Emma Hines, Sarah Hines, Samuel Jaynes, Laurel Jaynes, and Miles Hines

The majority of Bud’s childhood was spent on a farm in Arkansas, and he was always proud of his farming roots. Shortly after high school he joined the army and was stationed in Frankfort, Germany as a Specialist 4 in Army Intelligence. That was where his lifelong interest in photography began to turn into a career under the tutelage of a German photographer named Werner Berger. As a part-time side job Bud began taking photos of events at the army base. He also completed an associate degree program at the University of Maryland through the army.

After his stint in the army, he returned to Downers Grove where he got a job at International Harvester as a Photographic Engineer. In 1961 He joined the Doings Newspapers in Hinsdale as a photographer and went on to become a Feature Editor and eventually a Co-publisher and Business Manager.

In 1970 he opened a photographic business in Hinsdale doing commercial photography as well as portraits and weddings. He did a lot of work for local politicians and at one time photographed local congressman John Erlenborn in the Oval Office with Gerald Ford. In 1976 he sold his photographic business.

Bud went on to join Merrill Lynch as a Financial Instrument Specialist in Commodities and subsequently moved to Garvey International and ACLI International where he managed seats on the International Monetary Mart as a Financial Instrument and foreign Currency Specialist.

After deciding he really enjoyed the freedom of owning his own business he joined Butler Walker, a local oil change business which was eventually sold to Jiffy Lube. Over the course of several years Bud owned Jiffy Lubes in Countryside, LaGrange Park, Westmont and finally ended with two in Hoffman Estates. One of the Hoffmann oil changes was the number one Jiffy Lube in the country for several years. He also owned a music store in Burr Ridge for several years called “Ultimate Sounds.”

Throughout all Bud’s careers he maintained his interest in photography and traveled often to New York to do “street photography” which he thought was misnamed. He also traveled to Europe many times, as well as Cuba, Nicaragua, Morocco, and other places. In addition, he loved animals and sportscars.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Community United Methodist Church at 20 N. Center St., in Naperville, Illinois on Saturday, April 1st at 11:00 a.m. with a Visitation prior at 10:30 a.m.
