<p>Ruth O. Swenson, 99, longtime Des Moines resident, died peacefully Sunday, March 12, 2023.</p><p><br></p><p>A Memorial Service will be held at 2 PM, Monday, April 10, 2023 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Des Moines. Inurnment will be at later date in the Marshall Lutheran Church Cemetery in Adams, MN. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Prince of Peace Lutheran Church</p><p><br></p><p>Ruth was born March 1,1924 in Adams, MN., the daughter of Oscar and Rachel (Underdahl) Anderson. She was baptized, confirmed and married at the Marshall Lutheran Church near her home. After graduation Ruth graduated from the Twin City Business School in Minneapolis. Upon graduation she was employed at the University of Minnesota.</p><p><br></p><p>On September 21,1947 Ruth married Kenneth Swenson in Lanesboro, MN. In 1948 they moved from Minneapolis to Des Moines. They have two children, Susan and Steven.</p><p><br></p><p>Ruth was a homemaker while their children were growing up, and later was employed at First Christian Church, retiring in 1991 after 23 years as church secretary.</p><p><br></p><p>Ruth loved her family and enjoyed vacationing with them, playing scrabble, and preparing their favorite foods. Her church, Prince of Peace Lutheran, meant a lot to her and her friends. Ruth enjoyed being a homemaker, crafts, gardening, camping, the different groups to which she belonged, including the Canasta club, card club, and her volunteer work at Lutheran Hospital. She was a charter member of the Sons of Norway in Des Moines.</p><p><br></p><p>Ruth is survived by her daughter, Susan Juergensmeier of Dillon CO. and her son, Steven Swenson (Mary Fraser) of Iowa City; nieces, nephews and step grandchildren.</p><p><br></p><p>Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; her parents; her son-in-law, Bill; and two sisters, Elvira DeVries and Alphia Riehl.</p><p><br></p><p>Online condolences shared at www.lensingfuneral.com</p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p><br></p>March 1, 1924 - March 12, 202303/01/192403/12/2023
