Obituary
Mrs. Ruth Murriel Brown Braddy, 97, passed away on Monday March 13, 2023 at ECU Health Medical Center.
A funeral service will be held on Friday at 11 am in the Sanctuary at St. James United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. The family will briefly see visitors beginning at 10 am.
A native of Greenville, she was a graduate of Greenville High School, she worked as an accounting clerk at W.L. Allen Oil Company Inc. and J.A. White Insurance Agency for over 20 years. In 1977 she became a unit secretary for Labor and Delivery and Newborn Nursing Dept. at Pitt County Memorial Hospital. After retiring from the hospital, she continued her caring for children by providing child care and after school care for many children.
Ruth will be remembered for her quick wit, deep love for all of her family and her people loving spirit. She rarely met a stranger, and she maintained her sharp mind and was a great source of both family and Greenville history. She loved Jesus and was a faithful servant. She had just completed reading the entire bible for the third time. She loved to show off her perennial gardens, especially her Chinese Snowball Bush!
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Henry Thomas Brown and Mary Leatha Fleming; her brother, Henry Thomas Brown, Jr. of Greenville; her son, James Timothy Braddy of Greenville; her sister-in-law, Sondra Elizabeth Sheppard Brown of Greenville; and her sister, Eleanor Ree Brown Cherry of Raleigh.
She is survived by her: daughter, Linda Ree Braddy and husband, Ron Morrison, of Mebane, NC; granddaughter, Gretchen Sutton Hite of Greenville; nieces, Teresa Hart and husband, Paul, and Beth Murphy and husband, Patrick, both of Raleigh;
nephews, Henry Thomas Brown, III and wife, Amy, of Raleigh; Joey Cherry and wife, Jean, Lee Cherry and wife Kim, both of Greenville and Louis Chery and wife, Marsha, of Raleigh; and many great nieces and nephews; special friends, Jenny Baird, Katherine and Norman Dunn, Vicky Sutton, Shelley and Billy Fowler all of Greenville.
