William Morris Gittens Obituary

It is with broken hearts, we the family regret to announce the sudden and unexpected passing of William Morris Gittens, 76,  at the VG Hospital in Halifax on March 13th, 2023. He was the son of the late William & Arsene (Mercer) Gittens of New Waterford.

To our family he was a dear husband, father, poppy, great grandfather, brother and uncle who showed unconditional love to each and every one of us. He was a coal miner for 30 years, a taxi driver, and a school bus driver for the French school in Sydney. The past 12 years , Morris  worked at Canso Seafoods, where he made many lasting friendships. He was a member of the New Waterford Salvation Army.

Morris was devoted to his family. There was nothing he loved more or brought more joy to his heart then having his family and close friends all together under the same roof. He truly loved entertaining his family and friends by singing, playing guitar, telling jokes and reminiscing on funny memories, his goal was to make everyone laugh and enjoy themselves. Morris loved darts, and will be fondly remembered and missed by those he played with. He was a beautiful soul with the kindest heart who welcomed everyone he met with a smile and a joke. He had the most contagious smile. If you had the pleasure of knowing Morris you were the better for it. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Morris is survived by his loving wife Rose; daughter Tracy (Johnny); sons Jonathan (Rachel) & Eddie (Susan); daughter in-law Lisa; grandchildren Christene (Jeff), Steven, Leah, Dakoda (Brett), Randy, Dylan and Tyson; great grandchildren Landyn, Aria, Everly, Rory and a precious baby girl on the way; sisters Jean, Leotta, Marcella; brothers Jules (Carol) & Joe (Renata) and lots of nieces & nephews. Also left to mourn his passing is his fur baby Macy, his chosen family in Canso as well as his bestest friend, Dave Cormier who he loved and thought the world of. He loved and treasured each and every one of his family and friends.

Morris has now been reunited with his beloved son William; his parents William & Arsene Gittens; sisters Julie & Martha; brother Frankie and his fur baby Jackson, who was also his best friend. If you wish, donations in his memory may be made to the Cape Breton S.P.C.A or a charity of one's choice.

Cremation has taken place.  A visitation will be held on Monday March 20th from noon until 1:45pm with a service to follow at 2 p.m., all in McLellan Funeral Home Chapel, 3183 Plummer Ave, New Waterford. Miss Me But Let Me Go

When I come to the end of the road

And the sun has set for me

I want no rites in a gloom-filled room

Why cry for a soul set free?

Miss me a little-but not too long

And not with your head bowed low

Remember the love that we once shared

Miss me-but let me go

For this is a journey that we all must take

And each must go alone.

It’s all part of the Master plan

A step on the road to home

When you are lonely and sick of heart

Go to the friends we know

And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds

Miss me but let me go.
