Displaying a very adventurous spirit, she traveled cross country in 1954 as a single woman. Her plan was to join her older brother Bob, his wife Nira, and their young children Ron and Ken, who were currently stationed in Hawaii. Shortly after arriving in Hawaii, she was hired as a nurse at Kapiolani Hospital, HI. Not long after, she met and fell in love with Bernard WC Loo. They married July 31, 1954, bought a home in Kailua, and quickly proceeded to build a large and vibrant family. The first six children were born in Hawaii, followed by four more in San Jose, California. After moving to the mainland in 1962, the family settled in Fremont, CA, relocating a year later to Milpitas where they stayed for over a decade, and then to Morgan Hill, CA. As the kids got older and left the nest leaving only a few children at home, she and Bernard moved south to San Diego. Bernard passed unexpectedly in 1990 at the age of 66, shortly after retiring from the US Postal Service and Morgan Hill Unified School District. Barbara continued working as a Nurse in San Diego her entire adult life, retiring in 1995. She was so very proud of her children and watched as they each achieved success of their own.

A few years after retiring, she met and fell in love with Ed Lyle, they were married in 1998 and Barbara relocated to Arizona where she lived the remainder of her life. She lived a full and rewarding life, enjoying her children, 23 grandchildren, and at last count 16 great grandchildren. Along with many nieces and nephews, grandnieces and nephews and great grandnieces and nephews. She traveled extensively, visiting Ireland several times and even taking all her daughters on one such trip. She and Ed traveled the US in both a 5th wheel and a motorhome spending several years volunteering as National/State Parks Hosts. She and Ed were also hospice volunteers for 10 years at Prescott Valley Hospital.

Barbara was an active member of many charities and organizations, including the Young Ladies Institute, American Businesswomen’s Association, and the Red Hat Society.

In 2018 Barbara suffered a stroke, where she lost 85% of the strength in her left side. Although confined to a wheelchair, and needing to move to an Assisted Living Facility, she remained very active for several more years.

Most recently her last wish was fulfilled with a final return to Hawaii. While there she enjoyed time with her family on the beaches and felt her spirit reinvigorated. Always constant in her life was her faith, which carried her through all challenges. She passed in a state of peace and contentment, being grateful for a fulfilled life, surrounded by family and lots of love.

Memorial Services:

Viewing/Vigil - Queen of Heaven Funeral Home on March 31, 2023 from 8:00am to 9am.
