Charles H. Rowden, 84, of Springfield, died at 4:28 a.m. on Sunday, March 12, 2023, at St. John’s Hospital.

Charles was born on March 9, 1939, in Springfield, the son of William and Dorothy (Asher) Rowden. He married Jo Ann Sargent on July 12, 1957, in Springfield.

Charles worked for Fiat-Allis for over 26 years and then drove a truck for St. John’s, retiring in 2001. He enjoyed fishing on his sister’s farm even if there were no fish in the pond. Charles was a loving and compassionate man, and he loved his family dearly. He will be truly missed.

Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Jo Ann Rowden; his parents; grandson, George Bisby; great-grandson, William Butler; and siblings, Frankie, Earl, Agnes, Jean, and Myrtle.

He is survived by his daughters, Elizabeth “Betsy” Bisby of Springfield, Penny (Chuck) Unthank of Auburn, and Charlene Bechtel of Springfield; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Cremation was provided by Lincoln Land Cremation Society.
