Larry Samuel Cumberland, 69, of Lucedale MS, passed away on Monday, March 13, 2023, surrounded by his family and close friends. He was born on September 12, 1953 in Philadelphia, MS to Gurvis Samuel “G.S.” Cumberland and Betty Cumberland McCrory.

After graduating from Neshoba Central High School in 1971, Sammy served as a sergeant in the 890th Combat Engineer Division of the Army National Guard for 14 years. He was a member of Pascagoula Lodge #419 F & AM and Scottish Rite of Gulfport. He retired from Ingalls Shipbuilding after 43 years as a Marine Electrician. Sammy was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting and gardening. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his father, G.S. Cumberland.

Sammy is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Carolyn Turner Cumberland; son, Joseph (Megan) Cumberland of Biloxi, MS; daughter, Ellen (Tyler) Massengale of Mobile, AL; grandchildren, Addie, Anna, Abram, and Andee Cumberland all of Biloxi, MS; mother, Betty Cumberland McCrory; and sister, Gwen Cumberland of Hattiesburg, MS; along with numerous other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at Heritage Funeral Home in Escatawpa, MS. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 16, 2023 in the funeral home chapel beginning at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Breaux Tageant officiating. The family will accept friends from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. prior to the service.
