<p>Anna Elizabeth McKenzie Hathcock</p><p>1934-2023</p><p><br></p><p>Longtime Auburn resident Anna Elizabeth McKenzie Hathcock, 88, passed away on March 12, 2023 in Dothan, Alabama.</p><p>Anna was born June 11, 1934 in Cotton Valley, Louisiana to the late Murray McKenzie (Sr.) and Mildred (Post) McKenzie. She graduated from Northwestern Louisiana University with a Bachelor of Nursing in 1956. After working for several years as a Registered Nurse, she remained at home to be a mother of her four children. Her children would be her heart and soul for the rest of her life. Her love for youth expanded beyond her family into several youth programs, including Cub Scouting and Girl Scouting. Anna and her late husband broadened their love for youth by serving as Trainers in Scouting for many years.<br></p><p><br></p><p>Her love for youth was reenergized upon her husband’s retirement from the Air Force. Mrs. Hathcock became a college student again, majoring in Secondary Education at Auburn University. She received her Bachelor of Education in 1981 and Master of Education in 1987, both from Auburn University. Anna began her teaching career at Beauregard High School for three years before transferring to Auburn High School, where she taught until her retirement in 1998. Many of her students went on to successful careers at all levels of health care. Her love of youth continued as she was heavily involved with Health Occupations Students of America, a program for Health Occupations students. She assisted with leading several annual conventions, served on the State Advisory Board and served on the National HOSA board of directors for several years.</p><p><br></p><p>Later in her life, she would join her husband in supporting the Auburn community through activities with the Auburn War Eagle Lions Club, including terms as a club President and as District Governor for clubs in southeast Alabama. She served on the Alabama Lions Sight board for many terms. Additionally, she supported organizations such as Leader Dogs for the Blind and Southeastern Guide Dogs, who provide guide dogs for the visually impaired. Anna also trained Lions officers at the District, State and National levels.</p><p><br></p><p>Upon the death of her husband, she moved to Dothan, Alabama where she resided until her passing. The family would like to extend their appreciation to Whitehall Assisted Living, Extendicare and Gentiva Hospice for their assistance and support over the last two years.</p><p><br></p><p>She was preceded in death by her husband, James (Ray) Hathcock in 2020. She is survived by her children, daughter, Jacquelyn Giddens (James) Dothan, AL; sons, James W. Hathcock (Delane) Gonzales, LA, William Hathcock (Kelly) Austin, TX, and John Hathcock Marietta, GA; grandsons, Luke Giddens, Noah Hathcock, Christopher Hathcock, and David Hathcock; granddaughters, Madelyn Hathcock and Grace Hathcock.</p><p><br></p><p>Visitation will be on Friday, March 17 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Frederick-Dean Funeral Home Parlor and a Graveside service will be Saturday, March 18 at 11:00 AM at Town Creek Cemetery.</p><p><br></p>
