Ann L. Stewart Obituary

Ann Loretta Stewart, 82 of Hamilton Square, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 11, 2023, at Capitol Health Hopewell in Pennington with her loving family beside her.

Born and raised in Manhattan, New York City, Ann attended Guardian Angel Elementary School and graduated from Cathedral High School. In 1959 Ann’s family relocated to Dumont, New Jersey. Ann began working at JCPenney’s Corporate Headquarters in Manhattan as a Secretary in the Sales Promotion Department until 1971. In 1965 Ann met her future husband Bob, a Layout Designer at JCPenney’s Corporate Headquarters. On June 10, 1967, Ann and Bob married at Saint Mary’s Church in Dumont, New Jersey. They purchased their first home and had three children Ann, Rob, and Susan. In 1976 they built a new home and relocated to Hamilton Square, NJ. Ann was a member of Saint Gregory the Great Church for 47 years and she volunteered at the annual carnival.

Ann’s love and caring for children brought her to Saint Gregory the Great School where she enjoyed working in the after-school program for over 12 years. Later Ann was employed by AAA, as a Member Services Representative until her retirement.

In her spare time Ann enjoyed gardening, growing tomatoes and peppers in the summer and tending to her favorite flowers, red geraniums, peonies, and petunias. She loved cooking for her family, celebrating the holidays and special occasions and making her famous apple pie. A coffee connoisseur, you could not walk into her home without a freshly brewed pot awaiting.

Ann had a deep love for all animals, especially her dogs. They held a special place in her heart and were considered part of the family.

She enjoyed visiting her friends at the shore, picnics at the beach, her family trips to Disney World and her Disney Cruise with her husband and children. The highlight of Ann’s retirement was her Mediterranean Cruise where Ann and Bob visited the Pyramids at Giza, rode a camel across the Sahara and soared to the top of the Rock of Gibraltar.

Ann was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, homemaker, daughter, sister and friend. The highlight of Ann’s life was her grandchildren. Ann enjoyed spending her afternoons watching Andrew and Brayden. They were everything to her.

Predeceased by her parents, Robert and Ruth Pembroke; as well as her grandmother, Mary Ellen Shaver; she is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Robert D. Stewart, Sr.; her daughters and their spouses, Susan Shinn (Mark) and Ann Vickers (William); her son, Rob D. Stewart; her brother and his wife, Robert Pembroke (Rose); her grandchildren, Andrew Solarski and Brayden Shinn; her sister-in-law and her husband, Carol Nelson (Donald); and her niece and nephews, Sean Pembroke, Donald Nelson, David Nelson and Sharon Arnold.
