John Mark Williams Obituary

John “Mark” Williams

June 24th1959- March 13th, 2023

John Mark Williams, 63, of Salisbury, Maryland, passed away after a long illness on March 13, 2023, at the home he shared with his son, Michael. Born on June 24, 1959, he was the son of John (Jack) Thomas Williams and Joann Parsons Williams. Mark was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Anna Maria Parsons and Marion Franklin Parsons and his fraternal grandmother Ruth Dickerson Shultz.

Mark was a 1977 graduate of Wicomico Senior High School in Salisbury, Maryland. Growing up, he attended Beaver Run Elementary School and later Wicomico Junior and Senior High. He was an outstanding athlete, excelling in baseball, football, and soccer in his senior year. He played Salvation Army Boys Club football and basketball as a child and was the 1973 recipient of the prestigious “Boy of the Year” award, chosen for his academic success, leadership, and athletic achievements. In his junior year of high school, Mark set the record for the all-time single season RBI record, which still stands today. Mark also enjoyed playing softball, basketball, golfing, jogging, and family times at the beach, and spending time with his many close friends. He was a lifelong Washington Redskins and New York Yankees fan. Later, he extended his love of sports to his children, coaching them all in their various sporting endeavors.

After high school, Mark went to work for the family business, R.H. Polliard Co., earning his HVAC and master’s plumbing licenses. He retired after 30 plus years.

Of everything that Mark loved, being a father, and more recently, a grandfather, were his greatest passions in life. His happiest moments were those spent with his three children or holding one of his grandbabies. After retiring in 2014, he moved from his lifelong home in Salisbury to Crofton, Maryland to be closer to his family.

Mark is survived by his parents Joann and Jack Williams of Salisbury; his three children, Michael S. Williams of Crofton, MD; Sarah Williams Broderick (Chris) of Glen Burnie, and Emily Williams (Mike Bloodsworth) of Baltimore, MD; and four grandchildren, Aiden and Emma Bloodsworth and Madison and Mckenzie Broderick. He is also survived by two sisters, Terri Murrell, and Debra Williams both of Salisbury, MD: a niece, Kristin Murrell (Ivano), of Stevensville, MD and three nephews, Tyler Murrell (Ashley) and Trevor Taylor (Brittney) of Salisbury, MD, and Shaun Taylor (Nikki) of Berlin, MD, along with several cousins, and great nieces and nephews. Mark was predeceased by his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Mark touched many lives and will be missed by all who knew him.

A celebration of life will be held on Monday, March 20, 2023, from 2-4 p.m., with visitation from 2-3 and services from 3-4 at Hardesty Funeral Home, 851 Annapolis Rd., Gambrills, MD 21054.
